Who we are
This website is operated by Danny Ng for Ward 3 (the “Campaign”).
Website: https://www.dannyng.ca
Privacy contact: info@dannyng.ca (or donate@dannyng.ca for donation-related inquiries)
What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal information we collect from donors, volunteers, supporters, and site visitors, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices.
Information we collect
1) Donations & compliance
If you contribute to the Campaign, we collect details required to issue receipts and meet municipal disclosure rules, such as name, address, contribution amount and date, plus contact details (email/phone). Payment details are processed by our payment provider—we do not store full card or bank information on our servers.
2) Volunteer & contact forms
When you sign up to volunteer, request a lawn sign, or submit an issue, we collect the information you provide (e.g., name, address or community, email, phone, availability, interests).
3) Email and SMS
If you opt in to updates, we store your contact details and preferences to send you campaign news. You can unsubscribe anytime using the link in our emails or by replying STOP to texts (where available).
4) Website activity
- Comments: When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comment form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to help spam detection.
- Gravatar: An anonymized string (hash) of your email may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. After approval, your profile image is public with your comment. See Gravatar’s privacy policy for details.
- Media uploads: If you upload images, avoid including EXIF GPS location data. Visitors can download and extract location data from images posted on the site.
- Cookies & login: See “Cookies” below for details on the cookies our site sets for comments, logins, screen preferences, and editing.
5) Technical data
We may collect technical information such as IP address, device/browser type, pages visited, and timestamps to secure our site and understand usage.
How we use your information
- Donations: to process contributions, issue receipts, and meet disclosure/reporting obligations.
- Compliance: to verify eligibility and respond to lawful requests from election officials.
- Communications: to respond to questions, send updates (with your consent), coordinate volunteers, and deliver services (e.g., lawn sign delivery).
- Security & site operations: to prevent spam/fraud, troubleshoot, and improve site performance.
Who we share information with
- Service providers (payment processors, email and SMS platforms, web hosting, analytics/anti-spam) who help us operate the Campaign. They are restricted to using your information only to provide their services to us.
- Public disclosure: Campaign finance rules may require us to publicly disclose certain donor information for contributions over a set threshold (typically name, address, and amount).
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required or permitted by law, such as to election officials or to comply with a valid legal process.
We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies
Our site uses cookies to remember preferences and keep sessions secure.
- Comment convenience cookie: If you leave a comment, you may opt in to save your name, email, and website in cookies so you don’t have to re-enter them next time. These last up to 1 year.
- Login & screen options: If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies (deleted when you close your browser). If you log in, we set cookies to save your login and screen display choices. Login cookies typically last 2 days; screen options last 1 year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends login to 2 weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.
- Editor cookie: If you edit or publish an article, a cookie with the post ID may be saved in your browser for 1 day (no personal data).
You can control cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect site functionality.
Embedded content from other sites
Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves the same as visiting those sites directly. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content (including tracking if you are logged in to that service). We recommend reviewing those sites’ privacy policies.
How long we keep information
- Comments: We keep comments and associated metadata indefinitely to recognize and approve follow-ups automatically.
- User accounts (if any): For registered users, we store the personal information in their profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except usernames). Site administrators can also see and edit that information.
- Donations & compliance records: We retain contribution and reporting records for the period required by election law and audit rules (typically at least three (3) years after the election) or longer if needed to resolve legal or administrative matters.
- Volunteer/communications data: Retained as long as reasonably necessary for campaign operations or until you unsubscribe/ask us to delete (unless we must keep certain data for legal reasons).
Your rights & choices
You may request:
- Access to the personal information we hold about you,
- Correction of inaccuracies, and
- Deletion of information we are not required to keep for legal, administrative, or security purposes.
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data and ask us to erase it, subject to legal retention requirements (e.g., donor disclosure records we must keep).
To make a request, email info@dannyng.ca (or donate@dannyng.ca for donation records). We may ask for information to verify your identity.
You can unsubscribe from campaign emails anytime via the link in our messages.
Where your data is processed
We primarily store data in Canada, but some service providers may process data in other countries. Your information may therefore be subject to the laws and lawful access of those jurisdictions.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (e.g., access controls, encryption in transit where supported, least-privilege access) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for the general public and not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us to request deletion.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Significant changes may be highlighted on the site.
